Dear Gender Trouble: Grow a Pair

(Of ovaries, of course.)

For those who missed it, the first issue of Gender Trouble hit foreheads across campus today, and the staff editorial was a long, anguished call for the Waaahmbulance.

Money quote:

“Others feel that this magazine is unnecessary and idiotic; after all, (these naysayers maintain), those with “alternative” gender views can [technically] [Ed: sic] express themselves in various forums on campus. They fail to see what is so wrong with this situation. The issue is that those who live on the margins are only “technically” tolerated. Can one even call this treatment “toleration” if it automatically comes with ostracism, discrimination, and shame?”

1. Unnamed editors of GT, I have happy news for you. You are in the majority. Very few people on this campus hold the view that sex and gender are link or that one sexual practice is better than any other.

2. If you want to see ostracism, discrimination and shame, try reading the correspondence directed toward campus conservatives. We get far, far worse than you’ll get - in fact, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if you get anything nastier than “You go, ze!”

I meant “unpleasantly surprised.” No one likes nasty mail, and I wouldn’t want the editors of Gender Trouble to get any.

Oh James. Someday, you’ll float away to the Catholic heaven in the sky on iridescent bubbles and rainbows of happiness.

P.S. thanks for the presidential campaign endorsement :)
