An addendum: If you have any questions about how to do something or anything of a more technical nature, feel free to directly write
jlaff09 at amherst dot edu (batman)
and/or
eandrews09 at amherst dot edu (robin).
Those guys are the two who (kind of?) know how the whole deal works.

Any chance of implementing custom headers? Things are looking especially bland around these parts.
Also, you guys need a logo.

Erik -
The custom header idea would allow the blog writers a bit more liberty with customizing their space. I don’t think it would be too hard to implement, but I know very little webdesign, so I cant say for certain.
A few other things that might improve the site:
1) A developer blog where you guys post about what you are working on. It would likewise be a better feedback/bug-reporting forum than this page.
2) A “BlogWatch” where users can track the posts of specific favorite blogs. (Yes, that is an intentional PlanWorld reference)
3) More clear indication of how a blog’s title will appear with the author. Not sure if you noticed this, but more than a few people have given their blogs their username. This may or may not have been intentional, of course.
At any rate, I’m sure a lot of new features will be added in the coming - especially Summer - months.
Things are looking great so far, by the way.

Users should have the option of being able to remove the tag cloud.
With FireStats, is it really a good idea to be able to see everyone’s IP addresses? Same thing goes for anyone who writes a comment on a post–the email sent to the blog’s author includes that individual’s IP address.
I have no idea what the “pingback” is, only that it leaves a comment on my blog post and fools me into thinking that people actually read my blog. Sad times.
To be fair to the coders: I know everyone is probably working very hard to get the site even better. It took me a while to find the “Feedback” page…perhaps you could make it more obvious on the home page? Right now you are asking people to complain on Jolt…

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and please keep it coming. This summer Jimmy and I will hopefully have the time and motivation to address these issues. We have a lot of our own ideas stewing that we plan on tackling as well.
@ irradient: the pingback feature is kind of bizarre and I’m not sure it is functioning properly right now. If you’re interested in general about the idea of pingbacks/trackbacks, check out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pingback
Also of note is that they can be disabled in the “write” tab: un-check “allow pings” under the blue “discussion” window, located to the right of the post window.
For IP addresses being displayed, a more knowledgeable user can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think this is such a worry. If it does become abused by the formidably large evil Amherst l33t haxor contingent (NOTE!), we will simply disable it.
As per Ricardo’s brilliant suggestion, this page will eventually morph into a developer blog and become much more populated with information. Another summertime project to tack onto the list…

does any old person browsing these pages get to see the email addresses of all commenters in plain text? [i don't think it's always been visible as it seems to be now...] that strikes me as a spam-inviting strategy.

Having a hard time with the wordpress stuff–links I create don’t work, can’t change the layout, allignment is messed up when I publish posts, etc.
