Chapman Revolution

I dreamt of Chapman..

July 30th, 2008 · No Comments

last night.  I don’t remember much.  But, Megan painting ceramic tiles on our kitchen wall.  Raw excitement to be back living with my ladies.  The common room had expanded to twice its size - Selena and I contemplated putting in two coffee tables.  Rose was around…

This morning I told my dad, “Oh, Chapman was so beautiful in my dream!”

“Who’s Chapman?”

“Chapman’s our house!”

que viva, la revolucion.

An Amherst Idyll

June 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Mind, I’m not writing this because my summer so far has been extremely interesting.  Rather, I’m writing under duress.  Selena did, indeed, visit Amherst this weekend, and she put my arse to the fire about blogging on AmhPub.  Hehehe.

I’m also writing because Javier hasn’t given me any work to do today - so far.  Which is wonderful.  I’m eating up every minute of stolen time.

So that’s what I’m doing this summer.  I’m chillaxing at Amherst, and working for Javier Corrales.   The work has generally been interesting, sometimes been tedious, once in a while it’s challenging.  If you’d like to know more about it, feel free to post questions.

My real purpose in writing is to create an Amherst idyll.  (idyll, noun, a simple descriptive work in poetry or prose that deals with rustic life or pastoral scenes or suggests a mood of peace and contentment - merriamwebster.com - that’s an idyll)

Amherst is everything you’d expect in summer.  Muggy, hot, delicious.  Swarms of mosquitoes.  I’ve finally developed an appreciation for Bart’s ice cream.  Marsh house is where it’s at (although those in Cohan might disagree ? ).  Swarms of people on the patio in the evenings being defeated and deflected by swarms of mosquitoes.  Roofs galore.  I suppose I would be making new friends if I didn’t have so many old friends living here in this building and nearby..  Skinny-dipping, cold water (maybe it’ll be warm by Fall ?), general aching for nudity in blasted heat.  Room fans.  Barbecues and wild romps and

Quite frankly, still not enough time to soak it all in.

Love, Love, Rach.

Summer Update - Selena

June 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi friends!

For four weeks now, I’ve been working at Root Cause, a nonprofit consulting firm. They have many initiatives and the one I’m working on is called Social Impact Research. SIR tries to tackle the problem of not having unified metrics across the nonprofit industry making it harder for high performing nonprofits to get funded and for funders to find high performing nonprofits. I’ve been researching high net wealth families and their advisers to see what kind of information they need to make informed decisions about their philanthropy.

I’ve also been cooking a lot with my house mate who is really into the raw foods movement and vegan stuff so that’s been interesting. On the weekends, I’ve usually been traveling. So far, I’ve gone to New York, Maine, and this weekend I’m going to Amherst.  July4th weekend, I’m going camping with my housemates.

The Chapman Revolution

June 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi lovely residents and friends of Chapman,

This is the Chapman blog where Chapman residents can blog about whatever interests them and whatever they think will interest other residents.

I created this blog now because I realized I don’t even know what many of you are doing this summer, and all of you are doing incredible things, I’m sure.

Throughout the year, I thought this might be a good forum to distribute interesting web articles, discuss dorm activities, rant or rave about Amherst, describe theses, complain about theses, etc.

So post, post, post!

Your RC,
Selena
